Each time a prominent prize-giving event approaches, one notices an outcry for introducing of new categories to honor overlooked contributions and fill the passions of fans dedicated to specific genres.
My colleague has already made for a horror game category. It would be amazing. So would strategy board titles, which is a dedicated supporter's campaign. Yet I need to apologize in advance for pushing forward since similar to single-minded supporters, I have a cast-iron argument supporting my request stands as crucial above others. Here's the proposal: We need a classification for brain-teasing titles.
The Genre Classification Challenge
Categorizing art by genre is not a science; it’s very subjective, and it will always generate discussions and end in fuzzy definitions. There’s a reason movie academies avoid this approach. But it is an unavoidable compromise in the world of interactive entertainment, showing incredible range they barely qualify a single creative category.
To recognize the complete range of gaming accomplishments to gain proper attention, while allowing diverse titles to compete fairly, specific award classifications remain vital.
Existing Game Classification System
Leading game ceremonies currently feature genre categories for Action-oriented games, Adventure-action titles, RPG experiences, Fighting, Simulation and strategy titles, and Sports/Racing games. Collectively, these award types actually cover many game types, allowing placement for most games within them.
This doesn't apply to brain-teasing titles. There’s simply nowhere to accommodate them. Consider three of outstanding current releases, all very different: the architectural riddles of one title, the pulse-pounding block-matching of another game, engaging interpersonal challenges of a third title. Which classification works within current classifications? Simply put, no category fits.
Recognition Challenges
Many instances occur of brilliant puzzle games released every year that have no home at major award shows, except when they manage to fit for categories like Mobile Game, Virtual reality experiences, or the intensely contested independent game categories.
- A renowned logic title got overlooked completely during that awards season
- Another imaginative release received no nominations during that ceremony
- Popular arranging title got ignored in 2021
- Just some logic titles scraped into independent or mobile categories
Significance of Puzzle Games
Frequently they represent compact experiences, however the design in brain-teasers carries substantial weight. Famous handheld logic titles count as most popular titles in the world and have been for an extended period.
The famous puzzle experience competes with popular creative games for the title of most purchased experience; it’s also in the running for top gaming experience. Brain-teasers form essential building blocks within interactive entertainment, while interacting with diverse game types.
The Solution and Justification
Puzzle games wouldn’t have that issue. It would be easy to populate a field of five engaging, different, qualified experiences every year with ease — or rather, with difficulty, because you’d have to leave numerous deserving experiences.
And to reiterate, these include experiences without proper classification during prominent ceremonies. Puzzle game makers are working at the hard edge interactive creation, producing among the purest expressions of the video game form. Just like movie stunt professionals, they merit acknowledgment. We shouldn't delay generations.
