Roughly 50 cars have been smeared with what appears to be human bodily fluid in the Germany's town of Hanau near Frankfurt, police confirm law enforcement.
Automobiles, building surfaces and postboxes were vandalized, occasionally with prohibited symbols, they stated in a official communication.
Police state they were contacted late on Wednesday, when a resident discovered that a vehicle in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been covered with a reddish-hued fluid.
The substance had been drawn in the pattern of a banned symbol, they reported.
Officers then found numerous other vandalized cars and residential walls in the surrounding area.
Nazi symbols are illegal in Germany under regulations prohibiting the public display of symbols from the Nazi era.
Police state early analysis show the substance was probably human bodily fluid.
"Currently there is no indication as to its origin; investigators are currently not aware of any injuries in association with the event," they commented.
Local authorities said they were working "to resolve the mystery" and have asked to the residents for information.
A senior official said the vandalism made him speechless and required to be addressed promptly.
"This event affects the center of Hanau and reopens the trauma of the right-wing terrorist attack in 2020," he stated on online, mentioning the murder of nine individuals by a gunman targeting individuals of migrant background in 2020.
